BATB News
We are making a number of changes to make baseball even better at
BATB. But before I go further, be assured that, in spite of the
changes, as always, your team can continue to stay together every
spring and fall. By the way, if you are not aware, in the fall,
teams play under the rules and on the field they will be using the
next spring.
We will be sending out information about the Fall 2011 season in a
few weeks. You can provide BATB updates to your contact information
(e-mail, phone, or home address) at any time -- we are always glad
to get them.

- Division Changes
New TEEBALL Division
There has been a growing demand to permit kids to start baseball one year earlier than has been allowed in the past. So beginning next spring, we will be adding a new TeeBall division at the young end of the age ranges. That means boys and girls who turn 4 before September of 2012 will be allowed to register next spring.
Revised JUNIOR & SENIOR Divisions
To make moving up less traumatic, we have split the Junior Division (JRB) into 2 one-year divisions and the Senior Division (SRB) into 2 two-year divisions. So Sophomore teams that move up to Juniors will become teams of 13 year olds, rather than a combination of 13 and 14 year olds. Similarly, Junior teams that move up to Seniors become teams of 15/16 year olds rather than a combination of 15-18.

Revised LEAGUE AGE Requirements
Beginning this fall, BATB will adopt new age boundaries.
To keep more kids playing longer, most baseball organizations have adopted the “USA Baseball” recommendation of setting age boundaries at May 1 through April 30 (instead of Sept 1 through Aug 31). That is, whatever your age is on April 30 will be your League Age for that year.
The rationale for the new age boundary is that 1/3 of the kids who would have aged out of any age group, can play one more year in that group. For example, 1/3 of the players who would normally move up to JRB next year, can play another year in SOB2.
The new boundaries also mean that 1/3 of the players who would normally move up, will now be technically too young to move up.
However, the league will grandfather the younger players under the old rules and permit them to move up if they want to stay with their old team.
